Free to use. Open source under GPL-3.0.
Use DRE for anything, commercial use included. Embedding DRE in a product you distribute? A commercial licence is available.
Is DRE free?
Yes. DRE is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0). You can use it for anything, commercial use included.
Can my company run it internally?
Yes. Running DRE inside your company, on your own laptops, servers or schedulers, is free. The GPL places no obligations on you for using it, and it doesn’t affect your own code or your reports.
Can I call DRE from my own closed-source code?
Yes. Calling DRE as a separate program, for example from a script, a job or an orchestrator, is free and doesn’t affect your code.
Can I modify DRE?
Yes. If you only use your modified version yourself, nothing more is required. If you distribute it to others, the GPL asks you to share the source of your version under the same licence.
What about plugins?
DRE starts plugins as separate programs and talks to them over a documented protocol. That separation is why a plugin, or a program that calls DRE, can have its own licence. The first-party plugins are installed by DRE on demand.
When do I need a commercial licence?
When you want to distribute DRE inside a product or service you provide to others without the GPL’s obligations. The GPL’s copyleft would otherwise require you to release the whole combined product under the GPL. A commercial licence from the copyright holder removes that requirement.
How do I ask about a commercial licence?
Write to licensing@getdre.com and say what you want to build. Terms are discussed case by case.
